Las Piñatas - Pinatas

Las Piñatas

A piñata is a brightly-colored ornament which is made from either a clay container or cardboard (usually embellished with papier-mâché). If it is made of cardboard, the piñata can be of any shape, including geometric forms, superheroes, flowers, and animals – among many others.
Piñata is believed to be originated in Mexico. Archeological evidence shows that the Aztecs, Mayans and other native people had their own versions of the piñata. These early piñatas were pots made of clay which were broken (usually using sticks) to reveal its contents. This represented gifts from the gods.

Traditional Piñata

This tradition is very popular in Central America and other Latin American countries, including Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. This tradition has also slowly spread to the United States.
Traditionally piñata is used in birthday parties, a boy or the birthday boy has to hit it with a stick and break it so that the contents inside come out. But ultimately the person would get himself hurt in this.
Nowadays instead of using a stick to break it, strings attached to it stretched to open it.
