La Hora – Time In Spanish | Part 1

In this post I am going to talk about how we ask or tell the time in Spanish. I will also tell how we use time in daily sentences and its application.
In this post I will tell how to ask and tell time, and how to say the current time in Spanish. In part 2 i.e. next post, I will tell how to ask and answer questions based on time and how to apply it in sentences and how to tell whether its PM or AM.

Let’s start

  • In Spanish time is expressed using the verbs Ser or Tener
  • Ttime in Spanish is always feminine.
  • We use ‘y’ for and, ‘media’ for half and ‘menos’ for less
  • For quarter , we use ” cuarto “.
  • To ask time, we say ¿Que hora es? or ¿Que hora tienes?
  • To answer for example, 1o’ clock we say – Es la una en punto.
Many examples of this are given in the pictures below.
