Guatemala is located in Central America and is a part of Latin America. Its official name is Republic of Guatemala . Its capital is Guatemala City . It has a population of 13,677,000 people with an area of 108,890 square kilometers.

Its official language is Spanish.

Guatemala is a country of volcanoes, mountains, and beaches on the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Guatemala has 30 volcanoes, out of which 3 are still active.
The Lake Atitlan formed when a volcano exploded over 84,000 years ago and collapsed to form a caldera. The lake is the deepest lake in Central America and is believed to be 300 meters deep.
High in the mountains in the misty cloud forests lives the colorful quetzal bird. Today the rare bird is listed as endangered due to destruction of tropical rain forests. 

The lowland Petén region in the northeastern part of the country is home to many plants and animals including jaguars, tapirs, mule deer, and the ocelot. 

One of the major volcanoes is Pacaya volcano, which is the most active one. The currency used is Quetzal.

La región de Petén, en las tierras bajas, en la parte noreste del país, alberga muchas plantas y animales, como jaguares, tapires, ciervos y el ocelote. 

Uno de los volcanes principales es el volcán Pacaya, que es el más activo. La moneda utilizada es el quetzal.
